In today's global digital economy, the way we do business cuts across geographic boundaries and traverses a spectrum of cultures. Getting the best out of your cultural diverse and cross border teams requires cultural competence that give you an edge to optimise the effectiveness of your management and work efforts in a cultural diverse environment.

Course Objectives

By the end of this course, participants should have a better understanding of how to:
  • Support a culture where seeing, thinking, and functioning from a cultural diverse perspective becomes second nature;
  • Identify, learn and practice new skills for leading and managing the complexity of cross cultural cooperation and projects;
  • Understand the impact of cultural values on work practices;
  • Communicate more effectively across cultures by using new skills, techniques and practices;
  • Enhance individual cultural competence in four specific areas that incorporate Intercultural Sensitivity, Intercultural Communication, Building Commitment & Preference for Certainty;
  • Capitalise on cultural differences;
  • Explore specific work practices for working with cultural diverse & virtual teams.

  • Measuring and benchmarking individual cultural competence via our on-line diagnostic toolİ;
  • Cultural Tool Kitİ for understanding cultural values and the impact on work practices;
  • Cultural strategies for behaviour
  • Communication preferences, styles, techniques & technologies
  • Work practices for effective meetings, tele/video conferencing and emails;
  • Communication practices such as obtaining information, persuading others;
  • Management practices such as decision making, task completion and participation;
  • Business case scenarios drawn from over 15 years of experience.

Joost Thissen is Partner of cultureresourcecentre, a specialist organisation that offers cross-cultural management training programs, and provides advisory services in the area of transformation for global business readiness. Originally from the Netherlands, Joost brings over 15 years experience dealing with a broad cross-section of national and organisational cultures, with specialist skills in cross-cultural management.

Joost is associated with a number of national and international networks including IBI, the Netherlands, and the Centre for Leadership and Cultural Intelligence, Singapore. Joost is certified by ICCP in executive coaching.
